Governor JB Pritzker is calling lawmakers back to Springfield to further protect reproductive rights in Illinois.
The special session will be held in the coming weeks and will in part address the influx of women expected to come to Illinois for an abortion.
“We’re considering a number of things, including expanding the availability of health care professionals so that we can manage through what is likely to be an increase in the number of people seeking to exercise their reproductive rights coming to Illinois from other states. That’s just one example. ”
House Speaker Chris Welch supports the call for a special legislative session.
“We will be joining the Governor in his call next month to make sure that even devastating incorrect decisions by the Supreme Court will put the health of women in jeopardy in Illinois.”
Other topics that may be discussed include allowing nurse practitioners to perform early abortion procedures and more funding for providers to increase services and locations.
