A new sergeant will be sworn in for the Salem Police Department at Monday’s Salem City Council meeting. Blake Phillips will take the place of Greg Wright who recently retired.

The council will consider a special use permit for the former Coaches Corner building at 115 West Main in Salem. Lisa Lamb Erlinger has already received planning commission approval to convert the second floor area to her residence. She plans to utilize the first floor for a coffee bar and retail sales space.

The council will also consider second reading approval of an ordinance to amend the fees and rules at the East Lawn Cemetery. Among the changes will be a limitation on temporary placement of items other than the headstone at a gravesite other than on special holidays and funerals.

The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
