Charles E. Douthit, 84, of Dix, passed away at 10:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2023, at his home, with his family by his side.
He was born August 16, 1938, in Dix, Illinois, the son of Troy and Grace (Mooney) Douthit. On August 22, 1959, at Woodlawn Christian Church, he married Mary Wilson, and she survives.
Mr. Douthit was a loving husband of 64 years, a dad, a grandpa, and a great-grandpa. He was self-employed in the used farm equipment business for the last 45 years. He enjoyed attending auctions and visiting with everyone. He did not know a stranger. He was a member of Boyd Christian Church, served on the board, and was a trustee. He also served on the Boyd Cemetery board.
In addition to his wife, Mary Douthit of Dix, he is survived by son, David Douthit of Dix; daughter, Debbie Hails and husband Brad of Woodlawn; three grandchildren, Troy Hails and wife Jennifer, Kaci Dunbar and husband Klayton, and Haden Hails; four great-grandchildren, Daemean, Cale, Taylen, and Treyson; sister, Ramona Flanagan and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marilyn Blackwell, Wilma Mays, and Shirley Phelps; and two brothers, Voris “Bud” Douthit and Gene Douthit.
Funeral services for Mr. Douthit will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Boyd Christian Church, with Jonathan Schnautz and Jeff Van Meter officiating. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service, at the church.
