Cleatis L. Snow, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 11:00 am June 8, 2023, at his residence.
He was born March 1, 1936, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Earl Talmadge and Nellie Irene (Ackley) Snow. Cleatis married Shirley Ann (Burnett) Snow on June 6, 1956, in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
In addition to his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Cleatis is survived by his children, Diana Boone and husband, Les of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Kathy Hulbert and husband, Robert of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Rhonda Yeager and husband, Frankie of Georgetown, Kentucky, Cleatis “Sonny” L. Snow, Jr. of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Charles “Rusty” Snow and wife, Donna of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Steven Snow and wife, Renee of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Todd Snow of Nason, Illinois; grandchildren, Jeremy Boone and wife, Erica, Holli Hodge and husband, Tim, Jacob Boone and wife, Desiree, Robert Hulbert and wife, Stacy, Christie Hawkins and husband, Trymon, Bethanie Snow, Stephanie Reynolds and husband, Charlie, Ivy Lee Napier and wife, Erica, Lance Yeager, Bryan Snow, April Snow and fiancé, Ren, Tiffany Snow, Tristan Snow, Kenny Ray Snow, Brandon Snow, Jessica, Travis Snow and wife, Amber, Crystal Wilson and husband, Andrew, Emily Snow and fiancé, Danny, Blake Snow and wife, Kayla, Taylor Martin and husband, Mitch, and Ella Capps; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles R. Snow of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Albert Braddy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sister, Dena Lundengreen of Mount Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews including special niece, Ann Barciszewski and husband, Dennis of Radom, Illinois; and special family friend, Peter Cook.
In addition to his parents, Cleatis was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Twanna Snow and her son, Duane; daughter-in-law, Twila Snow; brother, David Turner; stepfather, Albert Braddy, Sr.; and stepsisters, June Newton, Patsy Tolley, and Betty Owens.
Mr. Snow proudly served his country in the United States Marines in Japan and Korea. He completed Basic Training at Camp LeJeune. Cleatis was a welder and worked for Consolidated Coal at Burning Star Mine #5. He was a great mechanic and repaired lawn mowers. Cleatis enjoyed gardening, Indian artifacts, and watching old westerns. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Interment will follow at South Hickory Hill Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
