The Greater Salem Area Foundation raised over $8,000 to help the less fortunate in the Salem Community High School District at its annual swim night over the weekend at the Salem Aquatic Center.

Foundation Board Member Tabitha Meador says the community stepped up again this year to help.

“This is the best evening swim night the Foundation has hosted.  We are going to raise about $8000 to $8500 so that’s a significant amount of money the Foundation will be able to use for its mission.  We had about 200 people here, so we were very pleased with the crowd considering the weather was iffy-especially early on in the day.  But I think people came out, enjoyed themselves, we have given them a free meal, snacks, and a night of swim.”

Meador says the foundation has been able to keep up with the demand for help, but she says no one is sure what the future will bring. Those in need of assistance can find an application form on the Greater Salem Area Foundation website or Facebook page or by stopping at Salem City Hall.

In addition to the $5 admission, many businesses made donations to help sponsor the event.
