Several hundred people came to Bryan Memorial Park on Saturday for Family Fun Day in the Park.

YMCA Program Coordinator and Salem Recreation Director Jed Casburn was pleased to see the crowd.

“It has been fantastic due to this weather.  About 82 degrees no wins and no rain.  We are doing really well today I think everyone is having a blast.  It’s awesome looking down the sidewalk and seeing all the people.”

Casburn says the main event included bubble making, a Fraternal Order of Police Dunking Booth, and various food and activity events provided by area churches and organizations.

“Getting the community together.  Anyone who wants to participate in future Family Fun Days, come out and promote your church, organization or business, bring something for the kids and help have a great time out here.”

The event began with the annual Fishing Derby in the Salem Reservoir. Three-year-old Jacob Barham of Salem won for the most fish in the up to seven-year-old age category. Miya Shepard of Poplar Bluff won for biggest and Alden Wright of Salem for Most Fish in the 8 to 13-year-old age category. 14-year-old Valerie Collier of Salem won for biggest and most fish in the 14 to 18-year-old age category.
