The Salem Community Activities Center has a new Executive Director.
Kia Little has been hired to replace Emily Wilzbach who has moved to Wisconsin to accept a job there.
Little is no stranger to the Community Center after growing up there during the period her mother Trisha Cripps was Executive Director. Little previously served in the US Air Force and worked as a Team Leader at North American Lighting. She says she is excited to be chosen for the role and has hit the ground running.
“Been trying very hard to come up with new fundraiser ideas. I want to get more involved with the community. I think after Covid a lot of people in Salem forgot about the Community Center. We haven’t been hosting as many things and I think if I can reach out to more people, get more of them involved, and host more events they would want to go to.”
Little wants the community to remember them when they need a room to rent for almost any size event, including wedding receptions and birthday parties. She reports they can also help with decorations and room set-up.
“The goal is to be an affordable option for people in town. We also host a lot of community services. Right now we have the YMCA Day Camp going on, Hungry Hearts, Food Pantry twice a month, and Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are held here. We have a lot going on and people just don’t realize all we do.”
Little says the center’s main fundraiser is the weekly Bingo held every Thursday.
The Center also holds two special Bingo events each year, such as Glo Bingo.
Little does have the gym open from eight am to 4:30 pm for those who would like to come in and play basketball.
She’s looking forward to the return of professional wrestling. The Salem Community Activities Center is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1981.
