Governor JB Pritzker signs two new laws addressing children’s mental health.

One law creates the Children’s Mental Health Council, made up of experts from a variety of fields.  Senator Meg Loughran Cappel of Shorewood discussed the measure at a press conference earlier this year, saying the group will tackle multiple issues.

“With low residential placements for children with social, emotional and mental disabilities…children are left staying in emergency rooms or home where they are not safe.  This council will address the difficulties that so many individuals and their families are facing across the state.”

Governor Pritzker signed a second law requiring all youth in foster care to be assigned a mental health provider and given a well-being assessment.
