New state law will further protect consumers when it comes to health insurance coverage.
Illinois Department of Insurance Director Dana Popish Severnghaus says one law gives the Department more authority to help people with surprise medical bills that seem exorbitantly high.
“Consumers who are already suffering from illness or injury should not be further burdened with higher costs because they are unable to find an in network provider for emergency care or if a provider doesn’t have enough in network providers within a coverage area.”
The other laws create a study into healthcare access and affordability and require more information to be displayed on health insurance id cards such as company contact information and deductible and out of pocket costs.
