Veterans who gave their lives in service to our country will be remembered and honored on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th at 11 AM at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem.
Guest Speaker for the service will be US Army veteran Troy Williams. Troy was born and raised in Salem and is a 1989 graduate of Salem Community High School. He joined the US Army after graduation.
The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion will participate in the ceremony. The Little Egypt Brass will perform patriotic music.
Auxiliary President Janie Grimes says they are honored to be assisting with this year’s Memorial Day service. The Auxiliary’s purpose is to support the work of the Legion and to honor and support the veterans. The Auxiliary is hoping for a large turnout and believes the community is as eager as they are to restart this tradition.
Everyone is invited to bring a lawn chair and honor those who lost their lives in service of our country.
In the event of rain, the services will be moved to the covered patio at the Legion, 1001 East Main, Salem. A reception at the American Legion Post 128 will immediately follow the services.
Appetizers and dessert will be provided by the ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Isaac Hull DAR.
Food contributions can be dropped off at the Legion between 9 AM and 10:30 AM on May 30th.
