Megan Cook, a 2020 graduate of Okawville Jr./Sr. High School was named Most Valuable Player for the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels cross country team.

“I am very honored to have received the MVP award for cross country,” said Megan Cook. “It made me realize that my hard work has paid off, and I was able to help out our team to the best of my ability like I wanted to.”

“Megan was the lead runner for most of our season,” said Coach Mike Hargis. “She earned Region 24 NJCAA Honors, proving herself as a hard worker, a great student, an even greater person.”

Cook performed well throughout the season and always gave it her all, as early morning runs and local 5K’s prepared her for the cross-country season, in which she improved on personal record times.

She transferred to Kaskaskia College from the Missouri University of Science and Technology after spending a semester quarantined in the dorms during the COVID-19 pandemic. After taking classes mainly online, she wanted to finish her general courses closer to home with more affordable options and still have the college experience. She will transfer back to Missouri S&T to finish her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.

“During my time at KC, the girls on my team and Coach Hargis have made a great difference in my life,” said Cook. “My team always brought inspiring spirits and loving personalities to every practice and meet, and I am so grateful for this opportunity to have run by their sides.”

Cook is the daughter of Tim and Cathy Cook of Okawville.
