The Franklin Park Bobcats track team competed at the Class L State Track & Field Championship held at Carterville High School on a hot afternoon. The Bobcats finished with 69 points, just one-half point behind the state champions Marion who finished with 69.5, Mascoutah was 3rdwith 53. Mt Vernon and Centralia tied for 19th with 8 points and Carlyle was 23rd with 6.
The Salem 7th grade 4×200 relay team of Avery Gullion, Payton Gullion, Madden Thompson and Trey Clark were state champions in a school record time of 1:43.33. Clark was the 7th grade 100m champion in a time of 12.07. Morgan Mickens broke his own school record in the discus in winning the state title with a toss of 155-1. Noah Timm was runner up with 154-10.
Also for Salem, Ryegan Warren was 10th in the 100m hurdles as well as clearing 5-9 to take 2nd place in the high jump. Salem 7th grader Payton Gullion was 9th in the varsity 400m in a time of 57.49. Alex Spencer was 2nd in the mile in 4:59.59, a personal best, with Robby Shober taking 5th. In the 800m run, Hunter Malan was 10th just ahead of Alex Spencer who was 11th. The Salem 4x400m relay team of Gullion, Gullion, Malan and Shober were 10th as a team. Noah Timm was 3rd in the shot put. Holden Richardson was 4th in the pole vault going 9-feet.
The Lady Bobcats were 3rd as a team. Mascoutah won the state title with 51.5 points followed by Marion with 49.5 and then Salem with 41. Olney was 19th with 11 and Centralia 30th with 3 points.
The Salem 4×100 varsity relay team finished 6th in a school record time of 53.66. Hannah Smith won the discus with a throw of 88-6.
Addison Bullard was 3rd in the 100m hurdles, the Salem 4×200 team was 12th. Marah Johnson threw the shot 32-4 to take 3rd. Kinsey Jarrett was 9th in the long jump, Finley Puricelli was 2nd in the high jump with Jordan Kessler 4th. In the pole vault, Aubrey Bandy was 6th and Ruthie Hays 9th.
The Class S meet was held at Herrin High School. Raccoon won the 7th grade boys title, Meridian was the 8th grade boys champs. Nashville won the female state title with Aviston 2nd and Pinckneyville 3rd. Woodlawn was 14th and Raccoon 20th.
Raccoon’s Kylee Hall was 15th in the mile run, Carly Veach of Selmaville was 13th in the 100m hurdles, Iuka’s Kinnley Eagan was 15th in the high jump, Raccoon’s Kaylee Bowdler was 6th in the long jump, Maya Braddy of Raccoon was 3rd in the shot with teammate Emily Parrett 6th.
The Selmaville 4×100 relay team of Emily Guzman, Morgan Kurwicki, Veach and Kale Benjamin were 9th. The team of Kenna Benjamin, Kurwicki, Guzman and Benjamin were 9th in the 4×200. The team of Veach, Guzman, Kenna Benjamin and Maci Thorsen were 12th in the 4×400.
On the boys side, Raccoon’s Tyler Carruthers was 11th in the 200, Luke Mayer of Raccoon 10th in the 400 and Carter Lowe of Selmaville was 11th. The Rockets Kyler Sapp was 15th in the 800m. Caden Lamb of Raccoon was 15th in the mile and Carson Huggins was 10th in the 100m hurdles. Carruthers was also 7th in the long jump with Rome’s Logan Heater 8th. Central City’s Brayden Wood won the state shot and discus. In the 7th grade 100m, Carruthers and Marquis Ettress of Raccoon were 3rd and 5th. Huggins also was 13th in the 8th grade 100m.
Congratulations to the Raccoon 7th grade 4×200 team of Carruthers, Luke Connaway, Micahel Organ and Ettress who won the state title in a state record time of 1:44.92. Rome’s team of shton Wagner, Brayden Kroeschen, Ryker Perigo and Jayden Jones were 8th. In the 4×400 relay the Raccoon team of Mayer, Lamb, Jarett Rushing and Seth Coffman were 12th. Raccoon’s 4×200 varsity team of Mayer, Connaway, Coffman and Huggins were 12th.
