Centralia High School hosts 23rd Annual Academic Pep Assembly; see full list of award winners

Friday was a special day for Centralia High School as over 300 students were recognized for their academic achievement in CHS’s 23rd annual Academic Pep Assembly. Each class had a number of students recognized for various feats, with awards including the Choice award, the 110% award, the Scholar Performer award, and the Scholar Athlete award. Along with these awards, the top ten students in each class were also recognized for their academic excellence.

Throughout the ceremony, a number of performances were held. The Centralia High School Choir, under the direction of Jami Jacobs, opened with the National Anthem. The CHS Rock 101, under the direction of Stephanie Aarons, performed a number of accompaniment songs throughout the assembly. Special performances also took place, with TyJhawn Matthews performing John Legend’s “All of Me” and Audrey Pugh & Amanda Taylor performing “I See the Light” from Disney’s “Tangled.” Students were also treated to a special performance by a group of teachers performing an assembly-themed parody of Dr. Dre’s “Still D.R.E.”

Prior to the ceremony, students were able to nominate teachers who had a lasting impact on their students for the “Making a Difference” award. Recipients included first-year teacher Daniel Knox, Jacob Lund, and Celia Cooley. Guidance counselor Derek Harlan also received a surprise “Making a Difference” award from a student who says the counselor made a tremendous impact on not only her life but the lives of many others.

The assembly also focused greatly on recognizing the senior class of 2022. Carson True, Rylee Edson, and Kylie Gormann were named CHS Athletes of the Year. Lexi Sanders was awarded the Larry Irvin Memorial Scholarship, presented by Traci Macz. Jeremy Dalton and Kylie Gormann were named US Army Reserve Scholar Athletes. Ben Watson was awarded the Principal’s Award by Principal Dr. Reid Shipley. After all of the awards were distributed, the audience was treated to the signature “senior slideshow” which reflected on the many things the senior class had done that year. Also included were the “senior mosts,” in which the senior class voted on special titles that were awarded to seniors, such as “Most Likely to be President.”

The assembly lasted approximately two hours and marked the final attendance day for the Centralia High School Class of 2022.

Sophomore – Sophia Barrow, Madison Carroll, Calvin Hargrove, Annika Koester, Manuela Maco, Meredith May, Gabriel Peeck, Aubri Thompson, Cameron Tomlianovich, and John Veller

Junior – Titus Ashford, Maliyah Battle, Caitlyn Bone, Andrew Camp, Zoe Dodd, William Graham, Ian Justice, Caleb Martin, Victoria Neudecker, Makensie Pearson

Senior – Abigail Allen, Rylee Edson, Avery Endres, Chase Fischer, Connor Lorence, Gracie Moore, Zackariah Potter, Kenadi Schwartz, Hannah Tomlianovich, Benjamin Watson
