Kaskaskia College student Zach Steevens of Salem has received the Outstanding Student Award from the St. Louis Chapter of the American Welding Society.
Steevens says it’s a great honor and shows that hard work really does pay off.
KC Professor Cory Wellen called Zach an unbelievable student and genuinely good human being. Zach saved money to purchase his own welding generator just to have equipment to practice on weekends. Wellen adds Zach has routinely helped other classmates with their welding techniques as well as completing volunteer work.
Steevens is scheduled to graduate Friday from Kaskaskia College with an associate’s degree in Welding Technology. He’s already been accepted into the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers.
