The Salem Police Department and city officials honored retiring Police Sergeant Greg Wright at a city hall reception Wednesday afternoon.

Wright joined the department nearly 24 years ago.

Salem Police Chief Sean Reynolds says the Police Commission has named Patrolman Blake Phillips to take Wright’s place as Sergeant.   Phillips is expected to be sworn in at the June 21st city council meeting.

Reynolds reports the police commission is still finalizing the choice of a new patrolman to replace Phillips.    Reynolds says a training slot in the Southwestern Illinois Police Academy at Belleville has been reserved for August.
