Two Centralia Fire Department members and two Lifestar Ambulance personnel will be honored at the 29th Annual Medal of Honor Ceremony and the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service in Springfield on Tuesday.

All four were involved in saving 66-year-old Vicky Roe from her burning mobile home last November. She was unconscious at the time. CPR was also provided.

Unfortunately, Roe later died at a St. Louis Hospital from her injuries.

Centralia Fire Chief John Lynch recommended all four to receive accommodations for their efforts.

The award is given for an act of service in the line of duty, demonstrating excellence and professionalism in service to the citizens of the State of Illinois.

City of Centralia Fire Lieutenant Rob Smith and Huey-Ferrin-Boulder firefighter and Lifestar EMT Jeffery Kleiboeker will receive the Firefighter Excellence “Unit Citation” Award. It is presented for an act of service in the line of duty, demonstrating excellence, teamwork, and professionalism in service to the citizens of the State of Illinois.
