The Class 1a/2a baseball and softball regional assignments are out. The Salem Wildcats are the 5th seed in their sub-sectional and they will open up at the Vandalia Regional against perennial power Teutopolis. Coach Justin Fleener has been with Teutopolis for 20 seasons, and has won 18 regional titles including 13 straight. It will be a tough task to say the least, but the Cats did split a double header with the Shoes earlier this season in Salem. The opening round game will be at Vandalia on May 18th starting at 6pm. Top seed Paris is in the other semifinal against either Vandalia or Greenville.
In Class 1a, the Carlyle Regional will feed into the Greenville Sectional. On Monday, May 16 Odin/Patoka/Sandoval will open up at Christ Our Rock. The winner will get #2 seed New Athens in the semifinal. 4th seed Carlyle will await the winner of Okawville and Mulberry Grove.
Feeding into the St Anthony Sectional will be the North Clay Regional that will feature top-seed North Clay who will play either Cisne or Dieterich and 3rd seed and defending state champ South Central who will open up with Red Hill.
The Salem Lady Cats will be the 4 seed in their post season and will be the regional host as well with their site feeding into the Gillespie Sectional. Regionals will open at Tully Park on May 16 with Lawrenceville playing Flora, that winner will get top seed Gillespie on the 17th. Salem opens up with Robinson on the 18th with the regional championship on May 20.
In 1a softball, feeding into the Marissa Sectional will be the Christ Our Rock Regional. The hosts are the 3rd seed and will open with Okawville. 2nd seed Carlyle will play either Ramsey or New Athens. Odin/Patoka/Sandoval is the 4 seed and will be at the Dupo Regional against Valmeyer in the semifinal. The South Central Regional will feed into the Casey Sectional. 2nd seed South Central will play either St Elmo/Brownstown or CHBC while 3rd seed Altamont opens with Clay City.
