The Salem Police Department has announced they collected 68 pounds of no longer wanted medications during the National Drug Take-Back program last Saturday.
Deputy Chief Susan Miller says that’s up from the 62 pounds collected in October of last year. Salem Police have collected 1,741 pounds of unwanted medications since they started participating in the program in October 2012.
Even though there are two days a year specifically set aside for the Drug Take Back, Salem Police say they will accept unwanted medications year-round to avoid them getting on the streets or in the wrong hands inside a home.
