The Centralia Tournament opened up last night. The game of the night was the nightcap featuring the host Orphans and defending 1a state champion South Central.
The Orphans saw a 5-0 lead heading into the final inning shrink to nothing as the Cougars would tie the game and send it to extra innings. Ethan Watwood drove in the go ahead run for the Cougars in the top of the 9th to earn the 6-5 win.
Anthony Buonaura got the start for SC and went 5.1 allowing 2 hits and 2 earned runs with 8 strikeouts. Brandt Hiestand worked the final 3 innings for the win.
At the plate, Watwood drove in a pair with RBI also from Aidan Dodson, Beau Joliff and Andrew Magnus.
The Tournament continues today with 10 a.m. games at Sprehe Field featuring Centralia and Wesclin on Field 1 and SC and Waterloo on Field 2. Then the final games of the day will be at 12:30 when Centralia and Waterloo play on Field 1 while SC and Wesclin play on Field 2.
