Governor JB Pritzker is signing a package of new laws to further address teacher shortage in Illinois.

Raising the minimum salary and providing more support to teachers has helped attract new people to the field, but more must be done says the Governor.

“That’s why today I will sign legislation to reduce reinstatement fees by 90% for a lapsed educator license.  That becomes effective immediately.  That will allow over 1000 teachers to re-enter the teaching ranks every year.”

Another new law lets education students just about done with their college classes work as substitute teachers, giving them valuable experience and filling the need for subs.  Currently, substitute teachers must have a bachelor’s degree.
