The Salem Wildcats fell at home to Columbia 12-3. Isaak Williams doubled for the Cats going 2-3 and drove in 2 runs while scoring another. Blane Phillips went 2-4 with an RBI. Carter Rose had the other hit and run for the Cats. Columbia’s Logan Mueller had a big day going 4-5 with a double, home run and drove in 5 runs. Gavin Zimmermann was the losing pitcher for Salem going 5 innings allowing 10 hits and 6 earned. Charlie Hunter and Josh Powless each worked an inning of relief. The Cats added a varsity only game today at Patoka. Dom Voegele was the winning pitcher for the Eagles allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and struck out 13.
The Salem JV earned a 7-6 comeback win at Columbia in 9 innings. Salem stole the lead late trailing 6-5 in the 7th when Cooper Lobek singled home 2 runs to tie the game. Salem trailed 6-1 heading into their final at bat but scored 5 times to send it to extras. Ayden Rose had 4 hits and drove in 3 runs. Noah Nix also drove in a run along with Ryan Detering who hit a blast to the fence. Rhett Detering got the start going 4.1 innings allowing 5 earned runs. Lobek worked the final 4.2 allowing just 2 hits and no runs with 6 strikeouts.
Odin/Patoka/Sandoval is coming off a 14-4 loss to Christ Our Rock. For the Stallions, Lendon Isaiah, Brayden Such, Parker Boehne, Peltas all drove in 2 runs each as every Stallion had at least one RBI. Isaiah, Peltas and Such also doubled. Boehne earned the win going 6 innings scattering 5 hits and allowing no earned runs.
The defending 1a state champion SC Cougars had a tough day yesterday. Taking on St Anthony at Lakeland College in Mattoon, the Cougars gave up 13 runs in the opening inning to fall to the Bulldogs 15-0 in 3. The Cougars return to action this afternoon at Effingham.
