Salem motorcyclist seriously injured in crash involving tow truck

A 30-year-old Salem man was seriously injured when a tow truck pulled out in front of his motorcycle and the two collided on the Green Street Road at the Bell Club Road intersection southwest of Salem Tuesday night.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say Edward Hurd of South Lincoln Street was traveling westbound on his cycle on Green Street Road when the tow truckĀ  driven by 50-year-old Jason Howard of Jasper Road in Walnut Hill pulled from a stop sign while southbound on Bell Club Road in front of the cycle. Hurd then hit the tow truck just behind the driver’s door and was thrown from the bike.

Hurd was first taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia before being airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital for treatment.

Howard escaped injury. He was ticketed for failure to yield at a stop intersection. The crash occurred at 8:38 Monday night.
