The Centralia Plan and Zoning Commission has approved a request from Parker Timmons to operate a research laboratory on land that fronts West McCord Street west of North James Street. Timmons told the commission he is planning on building two 80 by 100-foot buildings. One that would be a highly secured ISO certified test facility for cannabis buds from cannabis grow facilities.
“As a grow facility grows, they have to have their harvest tested before it can go to an infusionary which is where the products are then made. We will have raw flower that will come to the facility to be able to be tested for the first round. We will give it a pass or fail. There are seven-panel things we have to test for.”
Timmons says after the cannabis is infused into products samples would return to the lab.
“Samples will come back from the infusion area to the laboratory to get label checks. We’ll check to make sure that what the label regulations say from the USDA and the FDA says what this product is is what is going to the dispensary for sale.”
The other building would house the soil and water testing he is currently doing in the former union hall building on Route 161 east of Centralia.
Timmons says he would have four to five employees to start and could eventually have ten to 12.
In order for the project to move forward, the Centralia City Council will have to concur with the planning commission to add research laboratories and facilities to the list of special uses permitted for B-3 Highway/Arterial Business.
