UNDATED (AP) — Aaron Judge entered with just one home run this season after cutting off talks on opening day for a long-term contract. He came up big on Friday.
The New York Yankees outfielder hit a pair of opposite-field home runs and threw out a runner from center field in a 4-1 win over the Guardians. He put the Yankees ahead in the third inning against Eli Morgan by following a two-out walk to DJ LeMahieu with a drive into the right field seats.
Jameson Taillon allowed one run and seven hits in five innings, giving up a fourth-inning homer to Franmil Reyes.

— Xander Bogaerts had three hits and scored twice in the first five innings of the Red Sox’s 4-3 decision over the Rays. Trevor Story, Bogaerts, Alex Verdugo and Kike’ Hernandez hit four of Corey Kluber’s first 14 pitches for singles, spotting Boston a 2-0 lead.
— Robinson Chirinos drove in three runs and Bruce Zimmermann pitched five-hit ball into the seventh inning of the Orioles’ 5-3 victory over the Angels. Anthony Rendon hit a two-run homer in the seventh for the Angels, who struggled in their return to the Big A after an impressive 5-2 road trip.
— The Mariners picked up a 4-1 win over the Royals as rookie Julio Rodríguez lined a bases-loaded, two-run double in the fourth inning and Jarred Kelenic followed with a two-run triple on the next pitch. Seattle starter Chris Flexen threw one-run ball over seven strong innings as Seattle moved to 5-2 on their nine-game homestand.
— White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson and first baseman José Abreu each made throwing errors on the same sloppy play, allowing the Twins to score the go-ahead run in the eighth inning of a 2-1 victory over Chicago. Anderson made his sixth error in three games when he skipped a throw to first on Carlos Correa’s two-out infield single that scored Ryan Jeffers from third.
— Glenn Otto earned his first major league win by outpitching former high school classmate Adam Oller in the Rangers’ 8-1 pounding of the Athletics. Otto was called up from Triple-A Round Rock before the game and pitched two-hit ball for five innings.
— Matt Chapman doubled home Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with two outs in the ninth to give the Blue Jays their third straight win, 4-3 at Houston. Santiago Espinal and Bradley Zimmer homered on consecutive pitches in the fifth inning to tie the game for Toronto.
— The Mets are a major league-best 11-4 after Starling Marte legged out an RBI single in the 10th inning of a 6-5 decision over the Diamondbacks. Pete Alonso collected two RBIs and James McCann drilled a two-run homer before New York’s bullpen wasted a 5-1 lead.
— Mookie Betts hit two home runs and Max Muncy homered and had three RBIs as the Dodgers beat the Padres for the 10th straight time, 6-1. Julio Urias pitched well for his first victory this season and combined with four relievers on a four-hitter.
— The Braves posted a 3-0 shutout of the Marlins as Kyle Wright had a career-high 11 strikeouts in six dominant innings. Matt Olson doubled in two runs to back Wright, who lowered his ERA to 1.06 through three starts.
— Alec Bohm hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the eighth inning to give the Phillies a 4-2 win over the Brewers. Bryce Harper, Jean Segura, Nick Castellanos and J.T. Realmuto each had two hits for Philadelphia, which won for just the third time in the last 10 contests.
— The Reds suffered their 10th consecutive loss as Steve Matz held them to a run on seven hits over five innings of the Cardinals’ 4-2 win at Cincinnati. Paul Goldschmidt poked a two-run single and had three hits in the victory.
— Austin Slater smacked a three-run homer as part of a seven-run second that carried the Giants past the Nationals, 7-1. Brandon Crawford doubled twice during the big rally, including a three-run hit as San Francisco chased Patrick Corbin.
— Roberto Perez supplied a two-run single and a solo homer in the Pirates’ 4-2 downing of the Cubs. Michael Chavis broke a tie with a home run in the fourth inning.
— Miguel Cabrera’s bid for 3,000 hits was put on hold while the game between the Tigers and Rockies was postponed by rain in Detroit. The teams will make up the washout with a split doubleheader Saturday.
