Marion County Schools will share in $654,104 in supplemental payments due to a “coding error” by the State Board of Education that shorted them money over the past four years. The money went to the Chicago Public Schools instead and they are being asked to repay the $87.5-million in overpayments during that time period. A total of 762 school districts statewide were underpaid.

The Illinois legislature approved the resolution to the problem in the final hours of the spring legislative session.

In Marion County, the Centralia City Grade School District will be receiving $126,004, the Salem Elementary School District $103,250, Centralia High School 103,221, and Salem Community High School $80,128. The South Central School District is scheduled to receive an extra $73,111, Sandoval Unit School District $46,991, Central City Grade $34,146, Selmaville School District $28,930, Iuka Grade $20,899, Raccoon Grade $17,505, Odin School District $10,100 and Kell Grade School $9,817.
