Cats whip Jets for 9th straight win

UNDATED (AP) — The Florida Panthers are two points closer to a division title.
 
The Panthers picked up their ninth straight win by blowing out the Jets, 6-1.
 
Jonathan Huberdeau stretched his point streak to 13 games, scoring twice and setting up another. Huberdeau reached the 30-goal plateau and leads the NHL with 78 assists.
 
Gustav Forsling scored twice in the second period to put the Panthers ahead, 4-0.
 
Florida has outscored its opponents 47-26 as it tries to wrap up the Atlantic Division title. The Cats are 10 points ahead of the Maple Leafs in the division race, and two points in back of Colorado for the overall league lead.
 
In the NHL’s only other game:
 
— Ilya Sorokin picked up his team record-tying seventh shutout by stopping a career-high 44 shots in the Islanders’ 3-0 win at Montreal. Sorokin outplayed Carey Price, who stopped 17 shots in his first game since last year’s Stanley Cup Final. Price blanked the Isles until Zach Parise and Noah Dobson beat him in a 1:44 span in the third period.
