The Salem Wildcats baseball team snagged a late lead and beat Roxana on the road in 8 innings by a final score of 4-3. Salem out hit the Shells 9-6 but also committed 3 errors in the game leading to a pair of unearned runs. Griffin Day was the starter getting the no decision lasting 6 innings scattering 6 hits and allowing 3 runs, just 1 earned with 6 strikeouts. Carter Rose worked the final 2 innings to get the win not allowing a hit. At the plate for the Cats, Blane Phillips and Gavin Zimmermann each drove in 2 runs. Aden Susmena had 2 hits with hits also coming from Isaak Williams, Brogan Gregg and Josh Powless. Salem returns to action tomorrow with a double header at Robinson against the Maroons and Newton.
The Salem JV scored 6 times in the fifth and 7 more in the sixth to pull away and beat the Shells 19-7. Ayden Rose and Cooper Lobek drove in 4 runs each, Ryan Detering added 3 RBI with Jalen Inlow, Aden Bass, Colton Shelton all driving in runs. Keaton Gullion scored 4 times and Noah Nix was 5-6 with 2 doubles. Nix also earned the win on the mound going 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 1 earned run with 10 strikeouts. Colton Shelton got the final 3 outs.
