The Marion County Board Tuesday night approved expending $250,000 in federal matching funds to be used for reconstruction of the Heinzmann Road between the Route 161 Extension and the Kell Road.

The county money will be used as a match to $1-million being provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation through their federal pass-through program.

County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick says the improvements will upgrade Heinzmann Road to a truck route.   It is utilized to reach the Kell Grain Elevator.

McCormick says they are still working on acquiring the right of way.   He’s hoping that is completed in time to bid on the project in July with project completion before the end of the year.

McCormick has also announced the Illinois Department of Transportation has now once again approved plans for the Church Road bridge just east of Route 37 south of Salem.   The project is on the April 19th bidding by the state.    McCormick is hoping to bring bids to the county board for approval at the April 26th meeting allowing the project to be completed this summer.  The bridge has been closed for several years.
