A barn was destroyed by fire in the Opdyke area of Jefferson County late Friday night and early Saturday morning.
Jefferson County Fire Protection District firefighters say the fire was on the Relda Odell property at 12,062 North Lighthouse Lane. Flames were shooting through the roof of the 30 by 50 structure upon arrival. Several older cars inside were also destroyed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office.
The fire call came in at 11:20 Friday night. It took about an hour to bring under control, with firemen remaining on the scene until about one Saturday morning.
