LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has announced South Alabama assistant Adam Howard has been hired for the same position with the Cornhuskers. Howard spent the past four years at South Alabama. Howard previously was an assistant at Troy, Tennessee, Southern Mississippi and Morehead State. Howard replaces Matt Abdelmassih, who left Nebraska on March 17 by mutual agreement.

The Hurricanes are coming off a weekend sweep of Duke that extended their streak to eight games and vaulted them into the top 10 in the polls. They host consensus top-three team Virginia in a key ACC series starting Friday. Tennessee strengthened its grip on the No. 1 ranking with a sweep at Vanderbilt. The Volunteers have won 19 straight and their 9-0 SEC start is best in program history.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz says his confidence hasn’t wavered even during an offseason in which Oklahoma transfer Caleb Williams’ name got mentioned as his potential replacement. Mertz is now working with a new receiving corps and new offensive coordinator as he attempts to gain consistency and live up to the lofty expectations that accompanied his arrival. Mertz owns a 13-7 record as Wisconsin’s starting quarterback. Mertz has thrown 16 touchdown passes with four interceptions in the 13 wins. He has thrown 12 interceptions and three touchdown passes in the seven losses.
