The Salem Wildcats will open up Cahokia Conference play today when they travel to Breese Central. Salem is 2-5 on the season after dropping their home game to St Anthony yesterday 9-4. The Bulldogs scored 7 runs through their first 4 at bats. For the Cats, Griffin Day drove in 2 runs with RBI from Brogan Gregg who doubled and scored and Charlie Hunter. Nick Gregg took the loss going 3.1 innings allowing 6 hits and 6 earned runs. Isaak Williams went the final 3.2 allowing 3 hits and no earned runs.
The Salem JV found themselves down 11-5 heading into the final inning; they plated 4 but came up just short with the tying runs on base losing 11-9. Rhett Detering went 4-4 with 4 RBI in the loss. Noah Nix went 1-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Ayden Rose also drove in a run. Jalen Inlow and Deytin Parker scored 2 runs each. Rhett Detering, Cody Beard and Cooper Lobek pitched in the loss. The JV will host Breese today at the High School field.
The SC Cougars are back in action today at Mulberry Grove. SC beat Altamont on the road last night 6-2. Aidan Dodson was the winning pitcher going 4 innings allowing 1 hit and no earned runs with 4 strikeouts. Anthony Buonaura added 3 innings of relief for the save. The Cougars broke a 1-1 tie with 3 runs in the 3rd and 2 more in the fifth. Brandt Hiestand drove in a pair with RBI also from Chase Thompson, Beau Jolliff, Andrew Magnus, Ethan Dunn and Dodson went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.
Mt Vernon lost their home opener 3-2 to Benton in extra innings. Rams are 6-2 and will travel to Althoff today to kick off the South 7 schedule.
North Clay beat Okaw Valley 11-0 in six-innings to improve to 6-1 on the season. Holden Clifton earned the win. They play at Dieterich today.
