The Kaskaskia College Board Monday night approved the purchase of a $639,135 new security system to replace its current outdated system.

College President George Evans says the new system will correct several deficiencies and will be state of the art.

“The live feed and just eliminating all the blind spots that the institutions have as well as covering areas that the camera system didn’t grow as the campus grew.  Being able to see an entire picture of the campus for our security staff as well as our first responders is very important to us.”

Evans says first responders coming to the college will be able to access the live video of the situation while en route.

The system will be provided by Arch Key Technologies of St. Louis.

The board also approved the installation of solar panels at the Trenton Education Center through a grant. As a result, the college will immediately see a $6,000 a year savings with no payback time for the equipment.

The board also approved new HVAC controls at the Lifelong Learning Center at a cost of $55,000.

A forklift simulator and an HVAC Lab Electrical Updates for the Centralia Correctional Center Education Programs were approved with the use of state grant dollars.

In personnel action:

  • The board employed Colton Leidner as IT Support Technician and Jody Roper as Financial Aid Specialist.
  • Safety and Security Officer Ron Perkins and Building and Grounds Technician David Langenhorst will retire effective May 31st.
