Engineering for Centralia’s new water plant to move forward

The Centralia City Council has given Curry and Associates Engineers the green light to complete engineering services for a new $25-million water treatment plant and water main extensions to and from the plant.

City Clerk and Administrative Officer Kim Enke says there will no longer be a task force to further look at the planned water plant that had delayed a contract with Curry and Associates the past two meetings.

“We met with the engineer and voiced the concerns and making sure if there were any local contractors we wanted to include them and any other local businesses.  Also goin through the bidding process which has to take place.  But they just wanted to make sure city employees, operating engineers are involved in the planning of the plant itself.”

The engineering work will cost the city $1.7-million. The city still needs to find funding before actual construction could begin. City officials have indicated they will be seeking grant dollars from the EPA to pay for much of the project.
