The 91 7th graders at Franklin Park Middle School celebrated their earlier blood drive soaring over its goal.

The drive collected 93 units of blood, well over the 77 unit goal, and the third-highest in the 19-year history of the blood drive.

Science Teacher Joni Dorff has coordinated all 19 and was pleased to honor the students.

“They are going to go back to their third hour and we have a movie for them.  They are going to get a snack and they can bring a drink with them, just a sort of celebration since it is a half-day of school as well.”

Dorff says all the students who brought in at least one blood donor were excited to be rewarded with a pair of Red Cross socks.  Those who helped at the drive also got a Red Cross T-Shirt.

The Red Cross says the 93 units of blood collected could save a potential 279 lives.

Blood Drive Helpers included front row (left to right) Ella Robinson, Trinity Krutsinger, Addy Lever, and Rylee Neff. Back Row: Jaret Gibson, Max Vincent, and Avery Gullion.  Each is wearing the t-shirts and socks given to them for assisting the blood drive.   Photo by Bruce Kropp.
