The Omni Group that is providing project management for multiple improvement projects at Hawthorn and Franklin Park Schools this summer are “confident” all the work can be completed before the start of the next school year in August.
Mark Graves and Bryan Clark says they don't anticipate any major “supply issue” problems with the biggest one now being the epoxy floor scheduled to be installed in the cafeteria at Franklin Park. Other earlier supply concerns have been resolved.
Clark reported the schedule will be tight on the installation of the two new buildings at Hawthorn School. They are still awaiting plans for the modular classroom building so they can be approved by the city.
Superintendent Dr. Leslie Foppe ran down the long list of scheduled improvements starting at Hawthorn.
“We will have the multi-purpose recess gym building and another modular classroom with 4 classrooms. Next door we will have a new parking lot, asbestos tile removed and tile put in the main corridors and 3 classrooms and also going to take out the kitchen equipment and epoxy that floor and the gym floor and cafeteria.”
The district is paying for the improvements through federal COVID relief funds and money from the one-cent sales tax being collected for Marion County Schools. The resurfacing of the Franklin Park Gym floor is being done with insurance money since the surface was damaged during replacement of the roof last summer.
