Centralia High School to perform Shrek Thursday-Sunday

The Centralia High School Drama Club is presenting Shrek Thursday through Sunday.

Director Jami Jacobs says doing the performance has been a long-time student request and on her bucket list as well despite being a complicated production.

“It is quite an undertaking. There are so many costumes, props, different characters. There are very few kids on stage that aren’t playing 4-5-6 different characters.”

There are 21 students involved in the production. Senior Connor Lorence is the only male in the cast and plays the lead role of Shrek.

“Shrek is just this big, mean ogre who lives along in a swamp. But along comes donkey to be obnoxious and bringing him out of his shell. And the whole musical is just about Shrek discovering how to open himself up.”

Donkey is played by Senior Ali Kessler. She likes the fun bubbly character that is easy for her to play since she sometimes thinks she is Donkey in real life. Like Lorrence this play is the final performance in four years of drama club participation by Kessler.

“I think Covid stole some time away from us so this has been extra special. We didn’t know when we started if we were even going to have a show with quarantining it was so up in the air so to finally be in the week of the show is awesome and I can’t believe it.”

The show times are at seven Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and three o’clock Sunday afternoon. Tickets can be purchased online at centraliamusic.ludus.com. There will be limited or no tickets available at the door depending on the number of pre-sales.
