The Franklin Park Lady Bobcats won their 2nd straight volleyball regional title, after winning the Highland Regional last night. After beating Wesclin in the opening match 25-13, 25-12, they went on to face Highland. Salem dropped the opening set 14-25, won the next one 25-14 and then in an exciting, nail biting 3rd set, Salem won 15-13 to head to the State Tournament in Pinckneyville on March 26th. Salem will play the winner of Region 8 hosted by Mt Carmel. They get started tomorrow with Carmi taking on Flora and Olney playing Mt Carmel.
In the Class S New Horizon Regional, Odin opened with a 27-25, 25-16 win over Sandoval. They then fell to top-seed New Horizon 25-9, 25-19. Willow Grove St Mary’s then beat Selmaville 25-18, 25-23 in the other semifinal. New Horizon then won the title over Willow Grove 25-17, 25-9.
Last night at Woodlawn, St Mary’s Mount Vernon beat Field 25-16, 25-13. They advance to get the top-seed hosts tonight at 7pm following the Raccoon and Kell/Farrington semifinal at 6pm. The title match is tomorrow.
At St Peter last night, the host Lady Saints opened with a 25-20, 25-17 win over Iuka. Trinity Lutheran then beat the Saints 25-21, 25-12 and will take on Patoka in tomorrow’s title match after their win over Altamont Lutheran 25-21, 18-25, 16-14.
The Class S State Tournament will be hosted by Herrin and Class M at Nashville High.
