A tree falling into a power line is blamed for a power outage that affected several hundred residents of Sandoval and Junction City seven hours Saturday afternoon and early evening.

Sandoval Fire Chief Chad Parson says they were dispatched at 1:30 Saturday afternoon to the 100 block of North Pine in Sandoval for a tree on a power line.   A resident was having a tree cut down that fell onto the main power line in the alley.  The weight of the tree also broke a nearby power pole and damaged a transformer.

Firemen had to extinguish a very small grass fire caused by the arcing lines as well.

Parson says it took time to repair the lines because a tree removal service had to be called to remove the tree and then the transformer and pole had to be replaced by Ameren.

The power was restored around 8:30 pm last night.
