Only minor injuries were reported in a two-vehicle crash on West Main Street at Missouri Avenue on the west side of Salem late Friday afternoon.
Salem Police say an SUV driven by 72-year-old Reta Taylor of Hotze Road in Salem was southbound on Missouri Avenue when another driver waived her to pull out onto the driving lane of West Main. However, Taylor pulled across that lane into the passing lane and collided with another SUV driven by 33-year-old Keith Kirtley of High Street in Central City. The driver’s side front of Taylor’s SUV hit the passenger side front of the Kirtley SUV.
Police say 29-year-old Michelle Hester of East Olive was in the Taylor vehicle, while 33-year-old Courtney Osborne of North High in Central City and 12 and 14-year-old juvenile girls were in the Kirtley vehicle.
Police report the drivers and some of the passengers complained of minor injuries, but none wanted to be transported to the hospital.
Salem Fire Protection District Firemen were called to the scene. While there was no entrapment, firemen cut open the front hood of one of the vehicles to disconnect the battery and turn off the horn.
The crash occurred at 4:06 Friday afternoon.
