The Marion County Health Department has announced another death of a person who was COVID-19 positive in their report for the week ending Friday.
The resident was a male in his 70s who was vaccinated and was in the hospital at the time of his death. He was not a long-term care residence. There have now been 212 COVID-19 related deaths in Marion County since the pandemic began.
Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says there are now five Marion County congregate care facilities in outbreak status.
Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 8,519 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Illinois in the week ending Friday, including 149 additional deaths. The deaths push the total number of Illinois residents who were COVID-19 positive at the time of their deaths over the 33,000 mark. The total number of cases is over 3-million.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from March 4-10, 2022 is 1.3%.
Of Illinois’ total population, more than 76% has received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, more than 67% of Illinois’ total population is fully vaccinated, and more than 49% boosted according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
