Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a rural Salem man on multiple charges after he allegedly ran on foot following an early Friday morning traffic stop. Deputies first tried to stop 35-year-old Curtis Branch on State Route 37 South for speeding more than 20 miles per hour over the speed limit. Branch allegedly proceeded to his driveway where he left his vehicle and attempted to run inside his house. He was arrested for alleged resisting arrest, obstructing justice, fleeing and eluding police, and for speeding.
Salem Police arrested 33-year-old Daniel Crain of West Boone Street in Salem for alleged criminal trespass to land, disorderly conduct, and possession of methamphetamine. Police say they were called to a residence in Salem Mobile Home Park where Crain had been earlier banned. He had also allegedly threatened a resident of the home and was found in possession of under five grams of methamphetamine.
Five others were taken to the Marion County Jail on outstanding warrants.
- 29-year-old Chelsea Cessna of Springfield was returned by prisoner transport to Marion County on a felony failure to appear warrant on a forgery conviction. Bond is set at $15,000.
- 31-year-old Nathan Watts of Glenwood Acres in Salem was arrested by Wamac Police on an outstanding Marion County failure to appear warrant in a pending burglary case and on an outstanding Clinton County failure to appear warrant in a pending felony domestic battery case. Bond on the warrants totals $35,000.
- 34-year-old Tyler Hahn of South Cherry in Effingham is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond after turning himself in on outstanding Marion and Fayette County traffic warrants.
- 60-year-old Richard Jones, Junior of South College in Salem posted $500 bond and was released after being arrested by sheriff’s deputies on an outstanding traffic warrant.
- 50-year-old Jimmy Brannin of North Avenue in Iuka was arrested by Iuka Police on a Clinton County failure to appear warrant in a possession of drug paraphernalia case. Brannin was released after posting $500 cash bond.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is reviewing surveillance vice after a woman playing a video gaming machine was struck by another player during an early Thursday evening disturbance.
