Only Marion and Wayne Counties in South Central Illinois remain in the high transmission category for COVID-19 after large drops in number of new cases in the week ending on Saturday. Clinton, Washington, Jefferson, Clay, and Fayette Counties all fell into the substantial infection category.
In Marion County, new cases fell another 41-percent to 38 new cases. The rate of infection is 102 per 100,000 just barely over the 100 case level that begins the high category. There was one new hospitalization reported during the week.
In Clinton County, new cases fell 46-percent to 20. The rate of infection dropped to 53 per 100,000. There was one new hospitalization.
In Jefferson County, there were 31 new cases, a drop of 52-percent. The rate of infection fell to 82 per-100,000. There was one new hospitalization.
Both Washington and Clay County dropped to fewer than ten new cases. The number of cases fell 47-percent in Washington County with one new hospitalization. Clay County’s number of cases fell 71-percent with no new hospitalizations.
Fayette County had 20 new cases, an increase of 11-percent over the prior week. The rate of infection remained in the significant category at 94 cases per 100,000. There were three new hospitalizations.
Wayne County had 21 new cases, a 19-percent drop. The rate of infection was at 130 per 100,000. There were no new hospitalizations.
Statewide, the infection rate dropped to 82.6 per 100,000.
