The girls state tournament opened up at Redbird Arena in Normal. It’s a new format this year as all 4 classes are playing on the same weekend with 3rd place games being played the same day as semifinals and all the state title games will be held on Saturday.
In 1a, Neoga dropped their semifinal to Brimfield 60-44 and Galena beat Serena 58-31. Last night in the 3rd place game it was Neoga beating Serena 45-23. Brimfield and Galena will open up the championship day tomorrow at 11am for the 1a title.
In 2a, Pana dropped their semifinal to a very good Quincy Notre Dame team 56-44 but bounced back to beat Winnebago in the 3rd place game 49-45. Fieldcrest beat Winnebago 51-47 in the other semifinal. Notre Dame and Fieldcrest play tomorrow for the title at 1pm.
The tournament continues today in 3a/4a. At 10am, Civic Memorial will take on Mundelein Carmel followed by Morton and Nazareth Academy at 11:45. The 3rd place game is tonight at 7pm with the championship tomorrow at 3pm.
In 4a today, at 2:30 it’s Lincolnshire Stevenson taking on Lisle Benet Academy followed at 4:15 with Bolingbrook and Barrington with the 3rd place game tonight at 8:45 and the title game tomorrow night at 5pm.
