Governor JB Pritzker celebrated the end of the state’s mask mandate with a stop by Navy Pier in Chicago Monday.
Masks are no longer required in stores, bars, restaurants, daycares and schools. Governor Pritzker says it’s a great feeling.
“And it’ all because the people of Illinois did the right thing throughout this pandemic. We were able to bring the hospitalizations down. I’m excited about the spring and summer and what it’s going to mean for everybody now that we can all see our smiles.”
During his visit the Governor was asked about Friday’s Illinois Supreme Court decision not to hear his appeal of a lower court decision saying he overstepped his authority in the school mask mandate and sending the case back to circuit court.
“The result of which is if we need to and see another variant that is making people ill that we would be able to impose a mask requirement. But we don’t have any intentions to do that, things appear to be doing good. Cases and hospitalizations are down.”
The Governor says those that feel more comfortable wearing a mask should continue to do so. As of last night there were 943 Covid-19 patients in the hospital, the lowest level since the end of July.
