A 25-year-old Centralia man appeared for the first time in Marion County Court on Monday on an unsealed warrant charging two Class X felony charges of aggravated battery with a weapon where a person was struck and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm for discharging a gun in the direction of a person.

Mack Herron of South Sycamore is accused of the September 2021 shooting of Dalshaun Mitchell of Centralia as Mitchell was walking across the Marion County Housing Authority Parking lot near North Lincoln Street in Centralia. One of the aggravated battery charges accuses Herron of shooting Mitchell in the left leg, the other the right leg.

Herron indicated he would hire his own attorney. His first appearance in court with an attorney is Wednesday.

Bond on the warrant is set at a half-million dollars.
