More winter weather is on the way Thursday on top of a tenth of an inch of sleet and freezing rain received Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
Interstate highways and major highways are in mostly good driving condition with some slick spots.
Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick says crews are out salting and placing cinders. They are starting on the hard roads before moving to the other county-maintained roads.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports the Green Street Road has become extremely icy, slick, and hazardous and is best to avoid if possible.
Roads maintained by Salem and Centralia are ice-covered and extremely slick in many locations. Extreme caution is needed. Sidewalks and parking lots are also extremely slick.
The winter storm warning continues until midnight Thursday night. The National Weather Service says sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain will occur mainly afternoon. High 31. Northeast wind of 6 to 9 miles per hour. Total daytime ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. Total daytime sleet accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.
