Wildcats Punch Ticket To Regional Finals After Blowout Of Vandalia…Prep Boys Scores

The Salem Wildcats overcame a slow offensive first half to pull away and blowout Vandalia 59-40 in the semifinals of the 2a Pana Regional.  Caden Bee finished with 18 for the Wildcats.  Salem will play the sub-sectional’s top seed and regional host Pana after they eliminated Litchfield 71-51 behind 30 points from Brenden Schoonover.

Also in 2a at Arthur, Teutopolis beat Shelbyville 68-36 and Newton over Paris 46-29.  Nashville routed Red Bud at DuQuoin 64-33 and the hosts lost to Pinckneyville in overtime 67-57.  At Greenville, the hosts upset 3rd seed Hillsboro 65-62 and Alton Marquette knocked off Wood River 47-34.  At Robinson, the hosts dropped their game to Fairfield 50-45 and Mt Carmel over Flora 46-37.  At West Frankfort, Murphysboro had no problem beating Johnston City 54-25 and Carterville routed Benton 50-33.

The Wesclin regional semifinals were moved to today with Breese Central and Althoff at 6pm followed by Mater Dei and Columbia at 7:30.

2a Boys Scores:

  • At Eldorado – Massac County 57 Eldorado 53
  • At Eldorado – Hamilton County 48 Vienna 47

In 1a regional semifinals, the SC Cougars survived and advanced to the Dieterich finals with a 47-44 win over Cisne in a tight game throughout.  Keenin Willshire led SC with 18 points followed by Aidan Dodson with 12 and Ethan Watwood added 11.  SC improves to 25-7 on the year and will play for the regional title against Altamont after they beat the host Maroons 51-37.

In other 1a regional action at Patoka, St Anthony moved into the finals with their 60-41 win over Christ Our Rock.  Carlyle trailed late but came back to beat Nokomis 53-50.  At Strasburg, Macon Meridian beat Casey 63-56 and Neoga over Windsor/Stew Stras 44-40.

The games at Woodlawn were moved to today with Steeleville and Webber at 6pm followed by Wayne City and Albion.

  • At Strasburg – Macon Meridian 63 Casey 56

  • At Gibault – Madison 84 Lovejoy 53

In 3a, Centralia held off a game Waterloo team 43-31 to advance to the Centralia Regional finals on Friday.  The Orphans will get a 4th matchup with Mount Vernon after the Rams eliminated Herrin 50-43.  The Orphans have won the first three matchups this season.

Also in 3a at Cahokia, East St Louis beat Triad 73-39 and Highland over Jerseyville 60-46.  At Olney, the Tigers are still undefeated as they advance with a 55-47 win over Effingham.  Chase Travis had 17 points and 7 rebounds for Olney in the win.  The 2nd semifinal of Mascoutah and Marion was moved to tonight at 7pm.

3a Regionals Scores:

  • At Mahomet – Lincoln 53 Urbana 49
  • At Mahomet – Mahomet 55 Danville 53

The 4a regional semifinals at Granite City were moved to tonight featuring Collinsville and Belleville West followed by Belleville East and Granite City.
