The SC Cougars advanced to the 1a Dieterich semifinals with their opening round win at home over St Elmo/Brownstown 63-41. The Cougars were led by Spencer Johannes with 22, Keenin Willshire added 16 and Ethan Watwood finished with 10. The Cougars improved to 24-7 and will play in Wednesday’s regional semifinal against Cisne after their 66-54 win over Red Hill.
Also in 1a regional quarterfinal games on Saturday, Altamont beat Beecher City 59-26, Carlyle over Ramsey 69-37, Christ Our Rock eliminated Sandoval 66-43, St Anthony beat Mulberry Grove 71-52, Dieterich upset North Clay 58-42, Patoka/Odin lost to Nokomis 63-34 and Woodlawn lost to Wayne City 76-60.
In 1a Regional semifinals on Wednesday at Dieterich, the hosts take on Altamont followed by SC and Cisne. Patoka/Odin is the site for St Anthony against Christ Our Rock followed by Carlyle and Nokomis.
In 2a quarterfinals over the weekend, Columbia beat Wesclin 61-42, Flora over Marshall 66-39, Althoff routed Freeburg 52-32 and Vandalia got by Gillespie in overtime 63-56.
Vandalia advances to the Pana 2a regional semifinal on Wednesday night when they play Salem at 7:30 in the 2nd game of the night after top-seed Pana takes on Litchfield.
Also in 2a regional semifinals on Wednesday, at DuQuoin it will be Nashville against Red Bud followed by Pinckneyville and DuQuoin. At Robinson the first game will be Mt Carmel and Flora followed by Robinson and Fairfield. At Wesclin, Breese Central takes on Althoff followed by Mater Dei and Columbia.
In 3a semifinals on Wednesday, Centralia is the site where the Orphans will take on either Carbondale or Waterloo followed by Mount Vernon and Herrin. At Olney, undefeated Tigers will host Effingham followed by Mascoutah and Marion.
In 4a semifinals Wednesday, O’Fallon takes on the hosts at Alton followed by Quincy and Edwardsville. At Granite City, Collinsville plays Belleville West followed by Belleville East and Granite City.
