Marion County saw a 35-percent drop in new COVID-19 cases for the week ending on Saturday. The Centers for Disease Control is reporting 108 new or likely cases of COVID-19. The rate of infection is 290 per 100,000 people, still almost three times the level to get out of the high category.
There were 16 new hospitalizations for the week. The CDC reports 47.7 percent of county residents five or over are vaccinated against COVID-19.
Jefferson County was the only county to report an increase in cases. The 167 cases is two percent higher than the prior week. The county’s positivity rate is now 443 per 100,000. There have been nine new hospitalizations.
Clinton County had a 16-percent decline to 114 cases and an infection rate of 303 per 100,000 people. There was one new hospitalization.
Washington County saw an 11-percent drop in cases to 22 and an infection rate of 173 per 100,000 people. There were no new hospitalizations.
Fayette County had an 18-percent drop in cases to 53. That’s an infection rate of 248 per 100,000 people. There were five new hospitalizations.
Wayne County’s new cases fell by 33-percent to 55 new cases. That’s an infection rate of 339 per 100,000. There were five new hospitalizations.
Clay County had a 30-percent drop in cases to 57. The rate of infection is at 432 per 100,000. There were no new hospitalizations.
The entire state of Illinois remains in the high category. The state reported 26,207 new cases for the week ending Saturday for an infection rate of 182 per 100,000 people. There were 436 additional deaths in the week ending Thursday and a daily average of 209 people a day being admitted to the hospital. The state passed its 3-millionth new or probable case of COVID-19 last week.
