Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson (center) welcomes two new police officers Roxzen Styninger (left) and Mickey Jader (right) to the department after they are sworn in Thursday afternoon.

The City of Centralia has sworn in two new experienced police officers through the lateral transfer program.

They are Roxzen Styninger who has been a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy for the past two years and Mickey Jader who has seven years of experience with the Hamel, Troy, and Swansea Police Department.   Both were sworn in during ceremonies at Centralia City Hall on Thursday afternoon.

Centralia Police Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says because they are coming to the department as experienced officers they will have an abbreviated eight-week field training program beginning Monday.  They will be able to begin work on their own after April 17th.

Whritenour says the following week a 12-week field training program will begin for four new officers who are currently in the police academy in Belleville.   The four are expected to complete all training by July 18th when they can work on their own.

After adding the six new officers, Centralia is still one officer shy of being full strength.   Whritenour says they hope to fill that position and any other future openings from an entry-level hiring list.   Those who wish to test for the list must turn in their packet of information by four next Thursday afternoon.   The applications are available on the City of Centralia website as well as at the Centralia Police Station.   Testing will take place on Saturday, February 26th.    Anyone with questions about the eligibility list should contact the Centralia Police Department.

Whritenour says the plan is to take the top one or two on the list to begin academy training in May.    The list will stay in place for two years unless it is exhausted sooner.
